Hi, I’m Benson Shiu (aka @Smallfishba). I am a UK-based financial coach.

A few years ago, my family of three moved from Hong Kong to the UK. From the moment we began our preparations in Hong Kong, I realized that the UK tax and financial systems are vastly different from what we were used to. Navigating these differences caused me to take many unnecessary detours when starting our new life here.

Driven by this experience, I dedicated myself to understanding the British financial system. I started 'Smallfish Money' YouTube channel to share my journey, followed by the launch of the 'Smallfish Money' website in early 2024. My goal was to organize my educational videos into a structured, step-by-step resource to help fellow Hongkongers quickly grasp UK financial management.

Financial planning requires professional expertise, and I am committed to providing reliable, high-quality content. To that end, I studied for the Diploma in Regulated Financial Planning from the Chartered Insurance Institute (CII) and successfully earned the professional qualifications required to provide financial advice in the UK.

However, despite holding the qualifications to be a professional financial adviser, I have chosen to be an unregulated financial coach. I firmly believe that you are the best person to manage your own finances. I find far greater fulfillment in inspiring others through conversation and sharing knowledge, empowering them to make their own financial decisions with confidence. That sense of human connection is something I believe cannot be found simply by managing investment portfolios or selling products.
